Petronet LNG MD & CEO Akshay Kumar Singh Gets Service Extension

Director (Technical) Pramod Narang Also Secures Extension

In a significant development for India’s gas sector, the Central Government and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) have reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Akshay Kumar Singh, granting him an extension as Managing Director & CEO of Petronet LNG Limited. Singh’s current five-year tenure was scheduled to end in January 2026; however, he will now continue to lead the country’s largest LNG importer till May 12, 2027.

Petronet LNG Limited confirmed the decision through a regulatory filing, stating that the company’s Board of Directors cleared Singh’s extension during its meeting on November 7. Singh, 64, who assumed charge on February 1, 2020, will now superannuate in May 2027 after an effective 15-month extension.

Alongside Singh’s extension, the Board has also approved a two-year extension for Director (Technical) Pramod Narang, beginning November 25, 2025.

Petronet LNG Limited is a joint venture promoted by leading public sector undertakings—ONGC, IOCL, BPCL and GAIL (India) Limited. The company operates two major terminals, at Dahej in Gujarat and Kochi in Kerala, which together handle a substantial share of India’s LNG imports.

Why This Leadership Continuity Matters

  • Ensures stability during Petronet’s expansion and diversification phase
  • Maintains strategic alignment with India’s long-term LNG import strategy
  • Supports ongoing capacity enhancement projects at Dahej and Kochi
  • Provides continuity as India navigates global LNG market volatility

The extension granted to Singh has also upended succession expectations within the organisation, leaving several internal and external contenders for the top post sidelined.
