Yantra India Limited Granted Miniratna Category-I Status; Rajnath Singh Hails DPSU’s Rapid Transformation
YIL’s Board is now empowered to undertake capital expenditure of up to ₹500 crore on new projects, modernisation and equipment purchases without seeking prior government approval

Yantra India Limited (YIL) has been accorded Miniratna Category-I status, with Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh approving the upgrade in recognition of the Defence PSU’s swift transformation from a government organisation into a profit-making corporate entity within just four years. Congratulating YIL, the Defence Minister expressed satisfaction over the company’s sharp rise in turnover, strong push towards indigenisation, and consistent performance across key financial and operational benchmarks.
Since its inception, Yantra India Limited has posted remarkable growth. Sales surged from ₹956.32 crore in FY 2021-22 (H2) to ₹3,108.79 crore in FY 2024-25, while exports climbed from nil in FY 2021-22 (H2) to ₹321.77 crore in FY 2024-25 — underlining the DPSU’s rapidly expanding global footprint.
YIL’s major product portfolio includes carbon fibre composites, glass composites, aluminium alloys, assemblies for medium and large calibre ammunition, armoured vehicles, artillery guns, and main battle tanks (MBTs).
With Miniratna Category-I status, YIL’s Board is now empowered to undertake capital expenditure of up to ₹500 crore on new projects, modernisation and equipment purchases without seeking prior government approval — a move expected to significantly accelerate the company’s growth trajectory in defence production and exports.
Yantra India Limited emerged from the corporatisation of the erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), which was reorganised into seven Defence PSUs on October 1, 2021, to enhance autonomy, efficiency and innovation in defence manufacturing. YIL operates as a Schedule ‘A’ DPSU under the Department of Defence Production.
Notably, in May 2025, Miniratna Category-I status had also been granted to Munitions India Limited, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited and India Optel Limited — three of the seven newly formed DPSUs.
The latest recognition reinforces the Government’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aimed at strengthening indigenous defence capabilities, reducing import dependence, promoting domestic manufacturing, and positioning India as a global defence production hub.
