Punjab National Bank Launches ‘PNB Griha Vatika’ Digital Loan to Promote Rooftop Organic Farming
PNB said the initiative aligns with the growing trend of home-based organic farming, which is gaining traction across India

Punjab National Bank (PNB), one of India’s leading public sector banks, has launched PNB Griha Vatika, a digital loan scheme aimed at promoting sustainable living and encouraging households to cultivate vegetables in urban spaces.
The initiative supports families in developing small-scale organic gardens in spaces such as rooftops, terraces, balconies and courtyards. By transforming homes into centers of nutrition and self-reliance, the bank hopes to encourage healthier lifestyles while strengthening community well-being.
Under the scheme, financial assistance will be available for purchasing organic inputs and setting up modern cultivation infrastructure. This includes hydroponic systems, vertical gardens, drip irrigation kits, and other tools that enable efficient and space-saving urban farming.
PNB said the initiative aligns with the growing trend of home-based organic farming, which is gaining traction across India amid rising food prices, increasing health consciousness, and environmental concerns. The scheme aims to empower households to grow fresh, chemical-free vegetables for their daily consumption while also offering opportunities for supplementary income through small-scale surplus production.
With PNB Griha Vatika, the bank seeks to combine financial inclusion with sustainable development by leveraging digital lending platforms to make credit more accessible. The initiative reflects the bank’s broader commitment to customer-centric innovation and environmentally responsible practices.
By encouraging urban families to adopt rooftop and terrace cultivation, PNB envisions building a greener and healthier ecosystem where households actively participate in sustainable food production while enhancing their quality of life.
