Double Murder at HPCL Biogas Plant in Badaun: Two Officials Shot Dead, Ex-Employee Held

Sudhir Gupta had given a written complaint to the local administration in January, this year, but no action was taken against the accused

In a shocking incident, two senior officials of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) were shot dead at a compressed biogas plant in Sajni village under the Musajhag police station area of Badaun on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Sudhir Gupta (55), Chief Project Manager of the HPCL Compressed Biogas Plant and a resident of Noida, and Harshit Mishra (40), Deputy Manager from Bareilly.

According to police officials, the accused arrived at the plant in a car and opened fire with an automatic weapon, repeatedly shooting both officers. Reports indicate that two to three bullets struck each of the victims, killing them on the spot. The sudden attack triggered panic inside the plant premises, with employees rushing for safety as the assailant fled in his vehicle.

Police from multiple stations rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident. The injured officials were taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Dataganj, where doctors declared them dead.

The accused has been identified as Ajay Pratap Singh, a former operator at the plant. He was reportedly removed from his position around six months ago and had been involved in a dispute with the management since then. Sources said the accused had previously entered the plant on February 6 and allegedly attacked the same officers, following which cases were registered by both sides.

Police have now arrested Ajay Pratap Singh in connection with the double murder and registered a case under charges of murder. A detailed investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Following the incident, heavy police deployment was made at the plant premises. Senior officials including District Magistrate Avnish Rai, Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh, and DIG Ajay Sahni visited the site to review the situation and gather information from staff members.
