Jewar Airport: Distance Between East and West to Shrink, Saving Time and Cost

Religious Tourism, Travel and Trade in Uttar Pradesh–NCR to Get a Major Boost

The commencement of operations at Jewar International Airport is set to transform connectivity between eastern Uttar Pradesh (Purvanchal) and western Uttar Pradesh as well as the National Capital Region (NCR). With the start of flight services, travel distances between the eastern and western parts of the state will significantly reduce, leading to substantial savings in both time and cost.

Cities such as Varanasi, Jaunpur, Chandauli, and Ghazipur, along with several other districts, will benefit from improved accessibility. Travelers from Purvanchal will find western cities like Agra, Meerut, and Greater Noida much closer and more convenient to reach. The airport will also provide new travel options for passengers from Varanasi and surrounding regions.

Importantly, dependence on Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi) for international travel is expected to reduce. The new airport will open fresh avenues for tourism, trade, employment, and overall connectivity, strengthening Purvanchal’s position on both the national and global map.

Boost to Religious and Cultural Tourism

Direct connectivity between eastern and western Uttar Pradesh will significantly benefit the tourism sector in Purvanchal. The Jewar Airport will make it easier for both domestic and international tourists to access key spiritual and historical destinations.

There is strong potential for increased footfall at:

  • Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple (Varanasi)
  • Sarnath, the site of Lord Buddha’s first sermon
  • Other major religious and cultural destinations across the region

This enhanced accessibility is expected to elevate Varanasi and nearby districts as major global tourism hubs.

Acceleration of Medical and Business Travel

Jewar International Airport will also give a major push to:

  • Religious tourism
  • Medical tourism
  • Business travel

The improved infrastructure and faster connectivity will make travel more efficient and economical for all categories of passengers.

Trade, Industry and Employment to Gain Momentum

The airport will play a crucial role in boosting trade and industry:

  • Reduced distance and faster logistics for exporters and importers
  • Greater market access for Banarasi sarees, handicrafts, and agricultural products
  • Enhanced opportunities for local traders and artisans

Additionally, the airport’s construction and operations are expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs. Allied sectors such as hospitality, transportation, tourism, and small businesses will also witness significant growth, benefiting the youth of the region.

Vishva Bhushan Mishra, Joint Director, Religious Affairs Department, stated: “Jewar International Airport will significantly benefit religious tourism in Uttar Pradesh. After landing at Jewar, both domestic and international tourists will find it easier to travel to destinations such as Mathura, Agra, Bateshwar, Shakumbhari Devi, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Vindhyachal, and even the Char Dham in Uttarakhand.

Pilgrims can visit Kashi Vishwanath Dham and other temples and then proceed to their destinations via Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, Varanasi. The airport will also support the Buddhist circuit, and South Indian tourists can begin their journey from Kashi and depart via Jewar.”
