BCCL Inspects Belgharia Township Phases 4–6, Pushes for Faster Rehabilitation Under JRDA
Inspection to review infrastructure, livelihood initiatives and expedited relocation of affected families

A team from Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) conducted a comprehensive inspection of Phases 4, 5, and 6 of Belgharia Township to review the progress of rehabilitation works being carried out under the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA).
The inspection was undertaken following the directions of the Deputy Commissioner of Dhanbad and was led by Regional General Manager (Barora Area), K.K. Singh. He was accompanied by senior officials including Alok Kumar (Nodal Officer, JMP, Barora Area), Ashlok Kumar Singh, Prem Kumar Rai (R&R Team, Barora Area), Yash Surena (Assistant Manager, Civil), and Ranjit Kumar Singh (RI, Barora Area). JRDA Manager (Civil), Rajesh Kumar, also extended active support during the visit.
During the inspection, the team reviewed infrastructure and essential facilities developed for both LTH (Long-Term Housing) and non-LTH families rehabilitated or proposed to be shifted to JRDA sites. The facilities assessed included residential units, road networks, drinking water supply systems, electrical infrastructure, overhead water tanks, street lighting, and skill development centres.
Officials carefully evaluated the quality, usability, and maintenance of these facilities, emphasizing the need for timely completion and upkeep to ensure sustainable living conditions for the beneficiaries.
The team also inspected livelihood initiatives undertaken by self-help groups (SHGs) operating in the area. Activities such as mushroom cultivation and other locally produced goods by women including Soni Verma, Akanksha Kumari, and Geeta Devi were appreciated. In a gesture of encouragement, officials purchased products from the SHGs and motivated the women to continue their journey towards economic self-reliance.
Following the inspection, it was decided to re-establish communication with both LTH and non-LTH families residing at JRDA sites in the Barora area. The administration plans to provide detailed awareness about available facilities and launch a focused campaign to encourage faster relocation, thereby accelerating the rehabilitation process.
The inspection highlighted strong inter-departmental coordination, ongoing infrastructure development, and a clear commitment towards improving the living standards of families affected by coal mining activities in the Jharia region.
