Sanjay Khanna Appointed as New CMD of BPCL
Khanna was holding the Additional Charge of CMD BPCL for many a months till now


In a key leadership development in India’s energy sector, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Sanjay Khanna as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
The appointment has been cleared based on a proposal from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, following recommendations of the Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC), as per an official order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training.
Currently serving as Director (Refineries), with Additional Charge of CMD, BPCL, Sanjay Khanna will take full charge as CMD in the pay scale of Rs. 2,00,000–3,70,000 (IDA). His tenure will be effective from the date of assumption of charge and will continue until his superannuation on May 31, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
This appointment marks a significant internal elevation within BPCL and is expected to ensure continuity in leadership, particularly at a time when the company is focusing on refining expansion, petrochemical integration, and its transition towards cleaner and sustainable energy solutions.
The order was issued from Kartavya Bhavan, New Delhi, and signed by Ajit Kumar Ranjan, Deputy Secretary to the Government of India.
Sanjay Khanna’s elevation is seen as a strategic move, leveraging his extensive experience in refinery operations and downstream business to steer BPCL through its next phase of growth and transformation.
