Hardeep Singh Puri Meets QatarEnergy CEO in Doha, Reinforces India-Qatar Energy Partnership
India and Qatar share a robust energy relationship, with Qatar being one of India’s largest suppliers of liquefied natural gas

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri arrived in Doha on April 9 for a two-day official visit, marking a significant step in reinforcing India’s strategic energy partnership with Qatar.
During his visit, the Minister held discussions with H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of QatarEnergy.
Puri conveyed greetings and a message of solidarity from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

He also recalled recent telephonic conversations between PM Modi and the Amir of Qatar in March 2026, where both leaders emphasized the importance of restoring peace and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy. The Prime Minister had also expressed gratitude for Qatar’s continued support to the Indian community residing in the country.
Strengthening Strategic and Energy Ties
The discussions covered a wide spectrum of bilateral cooperation including trade, investment, energy security, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people relations. Both sides expressed optimism about further strengthening the long-standing partnership between India and Qatar.
H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi reaffirmed Qatar’s position as a reliable and long-term energy supplier to India, highlighting the importance of sustained cooperation in LNG supplies and broader energy collaboration.
Focus on Global Energy Stability
Both Ministers welcomed the two-week ceasefire announced on April 8 and stressed the urgency of restoring stability in global energy markets. They underscored the importance of uninterrupted energy supplies and smooth functioning of global supply chains.
They also emphasized the critical need for ensuring freedom of navigation and uninterrupted commercial flows, particularly in key maritime routes vital for global energy trade.

India and Qatar share a robust energy relationship, with Qatar being one of India’s largest suppliers of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The visit comes at a crucial time when global energy markets are facing uncertainty due to geopolitical tensions.
Minister Puri thanked Qatar for its continued cooperation and hospitality, while both sides agreed to remain in close contact in the coming weeks to further strengthen bilateral engagement.
