Praveer Kumar Srivastava to Take Over as MD of Mahanagar Gas Limited
Ashu Shinghal to Step Down on April 30, 2026

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has announced a key leadership transition with the appointment of Praveer Kumar Srivastava as its new Managing Director. He will assume charge on April 30, 2026, succeeding Ashu Shinghal, who will step down from the position on the same date.
The Board of Directors approved Srivastava’s appointment following the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee. He has been inducted as an Additional Director and designated as Managing Director for a five-year tenure, extending until April 29, 2031.
Srivastava brings with him over three decades of rich experience from GAIL (India) Limited, where he has held several strategic leadership roles across business development, gas management, and corporate planning. A Chemical Engineer from IIT Kharagpur and a certified Energy Auditor, he has been closely associated with shaping GAIL’s long-term strategic vision.
He played a pivotal role in formulating GAIL’s Strategy 2030 and its Net Zero Action roadmap, underscoring his strong focus on sustainability and energy transition. Srivastava has also been instrumental in pioneering initiatives such as India’s first Hydrogen Blending Pilot Project and the development of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM)-based green hydrogen production facilities.
Currently serving as Executive Director (Western Region) at GAIL, he oversees operations and marketing of the Western Regional Pipeline Network—one of the most critical gas infrastructure networks in the country.
Known for his emphasis on operational safety, efficiency, and sustainable growth, Srivastava is expected to steer MGL through its next phase of expansion while aligning with India’s broader clean energy goals.
Meanwhile, outgoing MD Ashu Shinghal demits office after a notable tenure, during which MGL strengthened its position as one of India’s leading city gas distribution companies.
The leadership transition comes at a crucial time for the sector, as city gas companies increasingly focus on expanding infrastructure, enhancing customer reach, and integrating greener energy solutions into their operations.
