GAIL to Supply PNG to Annapurna Kitchen at Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Marking a First for Kashi

The Annapurna Kitchen serves meals to nearly 15,000 devotees daily

In a significant step towards promoting clean energy usage in religious institutions, GAIL (India) Limited, Varanasi, has signed an agreement to commence the supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to the Annapurna Kitchen at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the temple trust by Deputy Collector Shambhu Sharan and Sushil Kumar, General Manager and Officer-in-Charge of GAIL Varanasi.

Senior GAIL officials, including General Manager Gauri Shankar Mishra, General Manager Suresh Tiwari, and senior officer Debasis Sahu, were also present on the occasion.

The PNG supply to the Annapurna Kitchen is expected to begin within the next 2–3 days. Notably, this will be the first kitchen in the ancient Kashi region to be equipped with PNG facilities.

The Annapurna Kitchen serves meals to nearly 15,000 devotees daily. At present, the kitchen relies on around 15 commercial LPG cylinders per day, totaling approximately 450 cylinders per month. With the transition to PNG, these cylinders will be freed up for deployment in other areas.

This initiative is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency while ensuring a safer, cleaner, and uninterrupted energy supply. Moreover, it sets the stage for expanding PNG infrastructure to other temples, monasteries, commercial establishments, and households across the region.

The move marks a crucial step towards environmental sustainability and modern energy adoption in one of India’s most spiritually significant cities.
