India Post, DTDC Ink MoU to Boost Logistics, Parcel Delivery and E-Commerce Reach Across India
Partnership between India Post and DTDC could become a template for future logistics collaborations in India

In a major step towards strengthening India’s fast-expanding logistics and e-commerce ecosystem, the Department of Posts (DoP) under the Ministry of Communications has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DTDC Express Limited to enhance parcel delivery operations and last-mile connectivity nationwide. The agreement was signed on Monday at Dak Bhawan, New Delhi, by Neeraj Kumar Jha, General Manager, Parcel Directorate, Department of Posts, and Jatinder Sethi, National Channel Head, DTDC Express Limited, in the presence of senior officials from both sides.
The strategic partnership seeks to combine India Post’s unmatched nationwide reach with DTDC’s private logistics expertise to create a stronger, faster and more integrated parcel delivery network. Officials said the MoU marks a continuation of cooperation between the two organisations that began in 2025 and is expected to significantly support India’s booming e-commerce segment.
India Post currently operates more than 1.64 lakh post offices — the largest postal network in the world — giving DTDC access to deep rural and remote geographies that remain difficult for private logistics players to service efficiently. Through this arrangement, DTDC will be able to utilise the Department of Posts’ extensive postal infrastructure for nationwide parcel movement, including Cash on Delivery (COD) services, a critical component of India’s online retail economy.
Joint Logistics Operations and Capacity Sharing
According to the Ministry, the MoU focuses on expanding opportunities in logistics and business operations through:
- joint parcel delivery operations,
- capacity sharing,
- adoption of best practices in the parcel industry,
- synchronisation of marketing strategies, and
- quarterly review meetings for monitoring progress and exploring additional collaboration.
The two organisations will also work on integrating systems and improving service quality to optimise delivery timelines and operational efficiency across urban as well as underserved rural markets.
Big Win for DTDC
For DTDC, the collaboration is expected to substantially widen its operational footprint by plugging into India Post’s vast physical network. This will help the private courier major improve delivery speed, lower costs in difficult terrains and strengthen last-mile reach amid rising demand from India’s e-commerce, SME and D2C sectors.
Boost for India Post’s Parcel Business
For the Department of Posts, the partnership is equally significant as it aligns with the government’s larger agenda of transforming India Post into a modern logistics and digital commerce enabler. By partnering with a leading private express parcel company, India Post aims to enhance parcel revenues, improve transmission and delivery standards and reinforce its role in India’s aspiration of becoming a global logistics hub.
Industry experts believe the public-private partnership model between India Post and DTDC could become a template for future logistics collaborations in India, especially as online commerce penetrates Tier-II, Tier-III and rural markets at an unprecedented pace.
