GAIL Veteran Praveer Kumar Srivastava Takes Charge as Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Limited
The Clean Energy Strategist and Pipeline Operations Expert Assumes Leadership at MGL

In a significant leadership transition in India’s city gas distribution sector, Praveer Kumar Srivastava has officially taken over as the Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Limited with effect from April 30, 2026, ushering in a new phase of operational strengthening, clean energy expansion and sustainable business growth for the company. His appointment for a five-year term had earlier been cleared by the Board of the company and disclosed through regulatory filings.
Srivastava joins Mahanagar Gas Limited after an illustrious career spanning more than three decades at GAIL (India) Limited, where he served in several mission-critical assignments across operations, maintenance, strategic planning, advocacy, gas management, business development and corporate leadership.
A Chemical Engineer by qualification and an energy sector veteran by experience, Srivastava has played a central role in some of GAIL’s most transformative initiatives. He was deeply involved in shaping GAIL’s ambitious Strategy 2030 roadmap, strengthening its Net Zero Action Plan, and driving internal organizational reforms aimed at future-ready energy transition.
His credentials in India’s emerging green fuel ecosystem are particularly notable. Srivastava was instrumental in the installation of one of the country’s largest Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM)-based green hydrogen production plants at Vijaipur, execution of India’s first Hydrogen Blending Pilot Project, and rollout of GAIL’s maiden Small-Scale LNG project—milestones that positioned GAIL prominently in the clean energy landscape.
Before moving to Mahanagar Gas Limited, he was serving as Executive Director (Western Region) at GAIL (India) Limited, where he supervised operations and commercial functions of the strategically vital western regional pipeline grid connecting LNG terminals at Dahej and Dabhol with major downstream industrial demand centres. His stewardship ensured uninterrupted gas transmission to power, fertilizer, chemical, industrial and city gas distribution consumers across western India.
Industry observers see his elevation as strategically important for Mahanagar Gas Limited at a time when the city gas distribution business is entering an aggressive growth cycle driven by expanding PNG penetration, CNG mobility, cleaner fuel mandates and new gas infrastructure reforms.
Known for combining operational discipline with sustainability vision, Srivastava is expected to push Mahanagar Gas Limited toward accelerated innovation, infrastructure modernization, customer outreach and long-term clean mobility solutions.
Apart from his corporate leadership credentials, he is also recognised as a strong advocate of community-focused CSR initiatives and sports promotion, reflecting a broader stakeholder-centric management philosophy.
With a seasoned gas technocrat now at the helm, Mahanagar Gas Limited appears set to sharpen its position in India’s rapidly evolving natural gas and low-carbon energy market.
