Uttarakhand to Roll Out New EV Policy Soon, 50% of Government Vehicle Purchases to be Electric

CM Dhami has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive and detailed Electric Vehicle (EV) policy aimed at accelerating the adoption of clean mobility across the state

The Dhami government of Uttarakhand is set to introduce a comprehensive Electric Vehicle (EV) policy aimed at accelerating the adoption of clean mobility across the state. The upcoming policy is expected to play a crucial role in reducing vehicular pollution and promoting sustainable transportation.

According to official inputs, the new policy will mandate that at least 50% of all new vehicles procured by government departments must be electric. This move is intended to significantly cut fuel costs while contributing to lower carbon emissions.

In addition to procurement reforms, the state government is prioritizing the rapid expansion of EV charging infrastructure. Charging stations and networks will be developed on a priority basis to ensure seamless accessibility for EV users across urban and rural areas.

Experts believe that the initiative will strengthen Uttarakhand’s position as a forward-looking, environmentally conscious state, particularly given its importance as a major tourism hub. The policy is also expected to encourage private sector participation in building robust EV infrastructure.

Once implemented, the policy could place Uttarakhand among the leading states in India driving the transition toward green and sustainable mobility.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive and detailed Electric Vehicle (EV) policy aimed at accelerating the adoption of clean mobility across the state.
