CMD BCCL Reviews Production & Dispatch at Bastakola Area, Stresses Better Coordination and Swift Decision-Making
CMD also visited Rajapur OCP and ABDKG Colliery to inspect production activities, safety measures, machine availability, monsoon preparedness and overall operational efficiency

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Chairman-cum-Managing Director Manoj Kumar Agrawal chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Bastakola Area Regional Office to assess coal production, dispatch, operational preparedness and the progress of ongoing projects, while emphasizing the need for seamless coordination and faster decision-making to achieve production targets on schedule.
The meeting focused on accelerating coal production, ensuring timely dispatch and addressing operational bottlenecks through strategic planning and effective execution.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Bastakola Area General Manager S. Gaikwad, Regional Manager (Electrical & Mechanical), Regional Finance Manager, Regional Planning Officer, Regional Manager (Survey), Project Officers and Mine Managers of all projects, along with General Manager (Coordination), General Manager (Electrical & Mechanical), General Manager (Finance), General Manager (Estate), General Manager (Safety), TS to CMD and Senior Manager (M&S) from the BCCL headquarters.
The CMD began the review by assessing the overall performance of Bastakola Area before conducting a project-wise evaluation. He sought detailed updates from project officials and mine managers on coal production, transportation, dispatch, equipment availability, resource utilisation and operational progress.
Safety and Production Must Go Hand-in-Hand
During the meeting, Agrawal directed all projects to achieve their production targets without compromising safety standards. He stressed that systematic planning, effective coordination and teamwork are key to exceeding production goals.
Highlighting the growing demand for coal in the country, he said BCCL’s role in ensuring India’s energy security has become increasingly significant. Improved production and dispatch performance, he noted, would not only support the nation’s energy requirements but also strengthen BCCL’s position within Coal India Limited.
He instructed officials to regularly review ground-level operations, monitor daily progress against targets and adopt a proactive approach to resolve operational challenges.
Faster Approvals for Uninterrupted Operations
The CMD emphasized that proposals, approvals and administrative processes related to production and dispatch should be processed without unnecessary delays. He called for close coordination between area offices and headquarters to facilitate timely approvals and ensure uninterrupted mining operations.
The meeting also reviewed transportation, logistics and dispatch-related issues. Area officials highlighted several operational concerns, including land-related issues such as relocation of a cowshed, the requirement of additional pumps and transformers for drainage at Rajapur Open Cast Project (OCP), and other infrastructure-related challenges.
Agrawal directed the concerned headquarters officials to resolve these issues on priority to prevent disruption of production activities.
Focus on Quality Control and Monsoon Preparedness
The CMD also stressed strengthening quality control mechanisms through regular inspections of mines and projects by senior officials. He called upon officers to maintain the highest standards of integrity, accountability and transparency in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Keeping in view the ongoing monsoon season, he instructed all projects to ensure effective mine drainage systems, remain fully prepared for weather-related challenges and continuously monitor vulnerable locations. He announced that project performance would now be reviewed every fifteen days to facilitate timely corrective measures wherever required.

Site Inspections at Key Mining Projects
Following the review meeting, Agrawal visited Bastakola OCP, Rajapur OCP and ABDKG Colliery to inspect production activities, safety measures, machine availability, monsoon preparedness and overall operational efficiency.
During the inspections, he issued necessary directions to eliminate production and dispatch bottlenecks, strengthen safety compliance and improve operational efficiency across the projects.
