BCCL Steps Up Coal Dispatch to Meet Rising Power Demand
CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal directs higher rake movement at BNR and Burragarh sidings
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has stepped up its efforts to increase coal dispatch and strengthen evacuation in view of the growing requirement of the power sector.
BCCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Manoj Kumar Agarwal inspected BNR Siding in Kusunda Area and Burragarh Siding in Bastakola Area and reviewed the coal dispatch position, operational arrangements and requirements at both locations.
During the inspection, the CMD directed officials to substantially increase daily rake movement.
At BNR Siding, the present dispatch of around two rakes per day has been targeted to increase to 3.5 rakes per day. At Burragarh Siding, where dispatch is currently around 1.5 rakes per day, the target has been raised to two to three rakes per day.
The directions come at a time when the power sector is witnessing increasing coal requirements. BCCL is therefore focusing on strengthening not only coal production but also the evacuation and dispatch network, ensuring that available coal reaches consumers in a timely manner.
Focus on Siding Capacity
Railway sidings are a crucial link between coal production and final consumption. Any improvement in loading and rake handling capacity can directly contribute to faster evacuation and higher coal movement.
BCCL is accordingly reviewing operational requirements at its sidings and working towards better utilisation of available infrastructure and resources. The focus is on identifying bottlenecks, improving loading efficiency and increasing the number of rakes handled each day.
The enhanced targets at BNR and Burragarh are expected to add significant capacity to the company’s daily coal evacuation system and support supplies to power plants.
Supporting Energy Security
With coal continuing to remain an important fuel for India’s power generation, dependable coal supplies are essential for meeting electricity demand. Efficient evacuation is therefore as important as production in maintaining a stable supply chain.
The CMD’s field-level review and specific dispatch targets underline BCCL’s emphasis on faster evacuation, operational efficiency and timely coal supply.
By increasing rake movement at key sidings and making more effective use of existing facilities, BCCL is seeking to ensure that higher production translates into higher actual dispatch.
The initiative is expected to strengthen coal supplies to the power sector and contribute to the country’s broader energy requirements.
