SECL Showcases Coal India’s HR Excellence at BRICS Trade Union Forum Summit 2026
Director (HR) Biranchi Das highlights Coal India's employee welfare, women empowerment and CSR initiatives before global delegates in Hyderabad

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) represented Coal India Limited at the BRICS Trade Union Forum Summit being held in Hyderabad from July 14 to 16, 2026, under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026.
Representing Coal India, Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources), SECL, participated in a high-level panel discussion on “Best Practices in BRICS+ Countries,” where he presented Coal India’s people-centric human resource policies, employee welfare initiatives and organisational development practices before international delegates.
Addressing the gathering, Das highlighted Coal India’s robust HR framework for its workforce of more than 2.2 lakh employees, making it one of India’s largest public sector employers. He outlined the company’s initiatives in employee welfare, women empowerment, skill development and harmonious industrial relations, emphasizing that a participative work culture and employee-focused policies have played a key role in driving organisational excellence and operational success.

Das also showcased SECL’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including “SECL Ke Sushrut” and “SECL Ki Dhadkan,” which have made a significant impact in improving healthcare and education across coal-bearing regions. He noted that these initiatives reflect Coal India’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development beyond mining operations.
Organised under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, the summit is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The three-day event has brought together more than 50 international delegates, along with representatives of Indian trade unions, labour experts and academicians.
The discussions at the summit are centred on critical issues shaping the future of work, including universal social security, skill development, human-centric technology, responsible artificial intelligence (AI), and women’s participation in the evolving global workforce.
SECL’s participation at the prestigious BRICS platform underscored Coal India’s growing recognition for its progressive human resource practices and its commitment to employee welfare, social responsibility and sustainable development.
