Life Threat to BCCL CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal Amid Crackdown on Illegal Coal Mining
Fresh threat comes amid intensified crackdown by BCCL and security agencies against illegal coal mining, theft and smuggling in Dhanbad
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal has received a fresh life threat amid the intensified crackdown on illegal coal mining, coal theft and smuggling in the Dhanbad coal belt.
The development assumes significance as Agarwal had already raised the issue of a threat to his life before the Jharkhand High Court during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation concerning rising air pollution in Dhanbad.
Agarwal told the High Court that the coal mafia wanted to kill him. He reportedly informed the court that a CISF jawan had heard some persons talking about killing the CMD and had conveyed the information to him.
Following the matter being brought before the High Court, Dhanbad Police stepped up security around Agarwal’s residence. Police personnel inspected his house and issued security-related directions. CRPF personnel were also deployed for his security.
Crackdown on Illegal Coal Trade
The threat comes at a time when BCCL has intensified its efforts against illegal coal mining, coal theft and the unauthorised movement of coal in its command area.
Agarwal has consistently maintained a strong position against the illegal coal trade. He has made it clear that BCCL does not want to purchase coal from the coal mafia, particularly when illegally mined coal is being openly brought into the market.
