UP Cabinet Minister Brajesh Pathak Inaugurates “Saksham-2021” In The State
The month long Fuel Conservation Campaign of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of MoP&NG and steered by OMCs, “Saksham-2021”, was inaugurated today at Lucknow by Brajesh Pathak, Cabinet Minister (Legislative, Justice and Rural Engineering Service), Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Appreciating the efforts of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Brajesh Pathak said, “This year’s “Saksham” carries a theme of, ‘Green and Clean Energy’, focussing to connect and educate people of the country by adopting the sources of green and alternative energy with the least use of fossil fuels and switching to environment-friendly fuels.” He further said that, “OMCs are doing a great job in educating people about the benefits of ‘Green Fuels’. Events like “Saksham” would go a long way in taking the country towards ‘Green and Clean Energy’ by reducing ‘Carbon Emissions’ and focusing on energy conservation”.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Uttiya Bhattacharyya, State Level Coordinator of Oil Industry, Uttar Pradesh and Executive Director and State Head, IndianOil, UPSO-1, said, “Saksham” campaign is being organised from January 16 to February 15, 2021 pan India by OMCs in collaboration with PCRA and under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. In Uttar Pradesh we have planned more than 20,000 activities such as LPG Panchayats, conducting Cyclothons, Workshops for Commercial Drivers, Seminars for Homemakers / Cooks, Radio and TV shows, etc. to adopt simple ways of saving fuel in all forms. We will also explain the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna, use of Alternative Energy, Benefits of Bio-fuel Policy-2018, Manufacturing of Bio-diesel from already Used Cooking Oil (UCO) and utility of 2G ethanol for environment protection and its benefit to the end consumer”, he said.
Addressing the august gathering of Captains of Oil Industry, Dheeraj Sahu, IAS, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), emphasised on the good driving methods adopted by drivers at UPSRTC Depots and proper maintenance of their vehicles for efficient fuel management. In-charges of six Depots of UPSRTC were felicitated by the Cabinet Minister for adopting methods of Oil Conservation while driving the buses.
On this occasion, Sanjay Malhotra, Head of Hindustan Petroleum, Lucknow, Rajiv Jaiswal, Head of Bharat Petroleum, Lucknow; R.K. Das, Head of GAIL India Ltd., Lucknow were also present. The virtual ceremony saw a participation of at least 1000 people comprising of participants from the Petroleum companies / its business related dealers / distributors, channel partners and academic sectors, teachers and students etc.
