Annoyed With Pay Cuts And Government Apathy, Pilots’ Associations In No Mood To Extend Unconditional Cooperation With Air India Management

The Indian Pilots’ Guild (IPG) and the Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association (ICPA) seem to have lost their patience with the top management of Air India as they have got no relief  or rollback in their salary cuts. The unions have said that they are no longer willing extend unconditional co-operation as the top management continues to mock the dignity of their profession. In a strong worded letter shot of to Director (Operations) of Air India, a copy of which has been marked to the CMD of Air India, it seems to be the final ultimatum of the pilots and they seem to be moving towards the war path with the management of Air India. Sir,

We have been very patient in the face of mounting neglect by the management during COVID-19 and have left no stone unturned to ensure smooth flight operations continue. The top management however has seen fit to heap discrimination against us under the guise of the ongoing pandemic by unilaterally imposing draconian pay cuts on pilots while absolving itself from any fiscal responsibility towards the national carrier or its frontline employees. This pathetic 3% decrease in the gross cut on our emoluments is the final straw.

The market is firmly set on the road to recovery and competing carriers are revoking their temporary austerity.

This is to inform you that we will no longer extend unconditional co-operation while the top management continues to mock the dignity of our profession.
