Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has reported a strong turnaround in its financial performance for the second quarter of FY 2026–27, posting a net profit of Rs 123.74 crore against a net loss of Rs 52.99 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The company’s revenue from operations surged 39.1% year-on-year to Rs 4,412.58 crore in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with Rs 3,173.25 crore in Q2 FY 2025–26.
The results mark a significant recovery for the coal producer, which had reported a net loss of Rs 68.09 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year.
Total Income Rises to Rs 4,571 Crore
BCCL’s total income increased to Rs 4,571.15 crore in Q2 FY27, registering growth of approximately 25.5% over Rs 3,643.54 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
The company also reported basic earnings per share (EPS) of Rs 0.27, compared with a loss per share of Rs 0.11 in Q2 FY26.
The return to profitability follows a challenging first quarter, when lower production and offtake, alongside higher operating costs, weighed on the company’s financial performance.
Coal Production Increases 7.6%
BCCL recorded raw coal production of 7.22 million tonnes during the September quarter, up 7.6% from 6.71 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Raw coal offtake also improved, rising 9.6% year-on-year to 8.89 million tonnes from 8.11 million tonnes in Q2 FY26.
The increase in production and offtake points to an improvement in operational performance during the quarter.

Recovery After a Difficult First Quarter
BCCL’s return to profitability is notable following its weak performance in Q1 FY27, when the company reported a net loss of Rs 68.09 crore.
The improvement in the September quarter coincided with higher revenue, increased coal production and stronger offtake.
However, sustaining the recovery will depend on the company’s ability to maintain production growth, improve dispatches and manage operating costs during the remaining quarters of FY27.
The latest results provide a positive indication of BCCL’s quarterly performance, although its half-yearly financial results and cumulative production figures will be important in assessing the strength of the overall recovery.
