BEL Bags ₹1,476 Crore Defence Ministry Contract for Advanced Mobile Electronic Warfare Systems

The agreement was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh

In a significant boost to India’s indigenous defence capabilities, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has secured a ₹1,476 crore contract from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of advanced Ground-Based Mobile Electronic Systems (GBMES) to the Indian Army.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at Kartavya Bhawan-2 in New Delhi. The procurement falls under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, with a minimum indigenous content of 72%, underscoring the government’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

According to the official statement, the GBMES will significantly enhance electronic warfare capabilities by enabling the detection, classification, and location of enemy radar signals. The system is also capable of intercepting and analysing communication signals, thereby improving situational awareness and strengthening air defence preparedness.

In its stock exchange filing, BEL clarified that the contract value stands at ₹1,251 crore excluding taxes. The company also highlighted that the system has been designed and developed by the Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Hyderabad.

Describing the GBMES as a “state-of-the-art, fully indigenous system,” BEL noted that it represents a critical advancement in network-centric warfare capabilities. The system’s deployment is expected to modernise Indian Army units while reinforcing India’s domestic defence production ecosystem.

This deal further consolidates BEL’s position as a key player in India’s defence electronics space and aligns with the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative aimed at reducing dependence on imports in strategic sectors.
