Centre Sanctions ₹548 Crore Power Upgrade for Uttarakhand, Ropeway Projects Get Fast-Track Push

Underground cabling in Rishikesh, smart power systems in three cities and accelerated ropeway development mark major infrastructure boost for pilgrimage state

Uttarakhand has received a major infrastructure push from the Centre with approval of ₹489 crore for underground electricity cabling in Rishikesh and ₹59 crore for SCADA-based smart power management systems in Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun under the RDSS scheme.

The approval was conveyed by Union Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Minister, the Chief Minister said the projects will strengthen electricity distribution, improve urban aesthetics in the Ganga corridor and support infrastructure readiness for future mega religious events.

The SCADA/DMS/OMS systems will enable real-time monitoring, faster fault detection and improved power reliability in the three major Uttarakhand cities.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan reviewed the progress of the state’s key ropeway projects and directed departments to fast-track execution.

BRIDCUL has been asked to function as the regulatory body for ropeway projects, while a high-level sub-committee will determine project priorities across the state. The Chief Secretary also ordered immediate resolution of pending issues in the Mussoorie Ropeway project.

Progress of the Kedarnath Ropeway and Hemkund Sahib Ropeway projects was also reviewed, with officials instructed to complete surveys, logistics planning, parking arrangements and connectivity works within set timelines.

The twin developments indicate a coordinated Centre-State push to modernise Uttarakhand’s pilgrimage, tourism and urban infrastructure.
