The event brought together around 383 Doctors, while promoting community health and engagement
SCCM Delhi-Noida (A Branch of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine) successfully Hosted Annual WALKATHON, “March – On – Foot” on 13th October 2024. This event was organized by Intensive Care Physicians associated with various Hospitals across Delhi & Noida, to observe the ISCCM Day (Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine).
The walkathon was flagged off by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament – Lok Sabha, Gautam Budh Nagar, Former Minister of State (Independent Charge) Tourism & Culture, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Environment & Forest, Govt. of India. The doctors held a rally that began at Chilla Sports Complex in Delhi and concluded at Noida Stadium in Noida. The theme of the walkathon was “Empowering the Community Against Critical Illness” aimed at raising awareness about critical illnesses and highlighting the vital role of intensivists in saving lives.
Despite the hard work and nobility in their profession, intensive care physicians have to commonly face the wrath of the public – Commented- Dr. Prashant Saxena- Chairman, Dr Akhil Taneja- Secretary, Dr Amit Goel- Treasurer, office bearers of SCCM Delhi Noida.
Recently, there has been a concerning rise in violence against doctors, particularly those working in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Intensive Care Specialists believe they have become soft targets. Slogans like “Fighting for every life, every day,” “Critical Care Saves,” and “Together we walk, together we care” were used to raise public awareness about critical illnesses and the vital role of the intensive care team. These specialists feel that there is a significant lack of understanding in the community about critical conditions and the urgent responses needed to save lives.
Office bearers of SCCM Delhi-Noida extended heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Anil Gurnani, Group director of Anaesthesia & Critical Care at Kailash Hospital whose leadership and dedication were instrumental in the planning and execution of this event.
The event brought together around 383 Doctors, while promoting community health and engagement. This event concluded peacefully on a day which hallmarks the formation of one of the largest society of healthcare professionals.
