GAIL Approves ₹3,800 Crore Investment for 700 MW Solar Projects in UP and Maharashtra
These projects represent a significant milestone in GAIL’s journey towards achieving its Net Zero targets

GAIL (India) Limited has approved an ambitious investment of ₹3,800 crore to develop 700 MW of solar power capacity across Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, marking a major step in its clean energy transition strategy.
As part of the plan, GAIL will develop a 600 MW solar power project along with a 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the TUSCO Solar Park in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The project is designed to meet the captive energy requirements of the company’s petrochemical plant at Pata in Auraiya district.
In Maharashtra, GAIL will set up an additional 100 MW solar power project with a 22 MWh BESS in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district (formerly Aurangabad). This facility will primarily cater to the captive needs of its PDH-PP plant located at Usar in Raigad district.
These projects represent a significant milestone in GAIL’s journey towards achieving its Net Zero targets, aligned with India’s broader energy transition goals. The integration of advanced battery energy storage systems will help overcome intermittency challenges associated with solar power and ensure reliable, round-the-clock renewable energy supply.
This initiative further strengthens GAIL’s position as an integrated energy major, balancing its conventional energy portfolio with an expanding footprint in green energy.
