NLC India Limited Signs NDA with EDF-France to Explore Nuclear Power Projects in India
The agreement reflects EDF’s continued commitment to India’s nuclear ambitions

NLC India Limited has signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with EDF – a French multinational electric utility owned by the Government of France – on April 27, 2026, to explore the potential development of nuclear power projects in India.
This strategic move signals a significant step toward strengthening India’s nuclear energy capacity, aligning with the country’s long-term clean energy and energy security goals.
EDF-France is the world’s largest nuclear operator, with extensive expertise across the entire nuclear lifecycle. The company has developed deep capabilities as an owner-operator of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) and as an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for European Pressurized Reactors (EPRs) both in France and internationally.
The agreement reflects EDF’s continued commitment to India’s nuclear ambitions. The French utility has been engaged in long-term cooperation with India and has expressed its willingness to participate in upcoming nuclear power projects in the country.
For NLC India Limited, traditionally known for its lignite and renewable energy portfolio, this collaboration marks a strategic diversification into nuclear energy. It also highlights the growing role of public sector enterprises in supporting India’s transition to a low-carbon energy mix.
The NDA lays the groundwork for further discussions, feasibility assessments, and potential project structuring, paving the way for future collaboration between the two entities in the nuclear energy domain.
