NTPC Green Energy Limited And HPCL Mittal Energy Limited Sign MoU : HMEL To Source 250 MW Renewable Energy From NGEL
NGEL and HMEL to explore opportunities in generation of Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and HPCL Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) in New Delhi signifies their collaboration in the field of renewable energy and green hydrogen. The MoU was signed by Shri V. V. Sivakumar, GM(NGEL), and Shri Girish Ghildiyal, GM(HMEL), in the presence of Shri Mohit Bhargava, CEO (NGEL), and Shri Harak Banthia, CFO (HMEL).
The key objectives of the MoU include:
Renewable Energy Collaboration: NGEL will provide 250 MW of Round-The-Clock (RTC) power sourced from renewable energy sources to meet the requirements of HMEL. This collaboration aims to support the transition towards green energy by supplying clean and sustainable power.
Green Hydrogen Business: NGEL and HMEL will explore opportunities in the green hydrogen business and its derivatives, such as green ammonia and green methanol. Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources and has the potential to replace conventional hydrogen derived from fossil fuels, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) is India’s largest power utility with a total installed capacity of 72 GW, including joint ventures and subsidiaries. To expand its renewable energy portfolio, NTPC has established NGEL as a fully owned subsidiary. NGEL focuses on developing renewable energy parks and projects, including ventures related to green hydrogen, energy storage technologies, and round-the-clock renewable power generation.
HPCL Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Mittal Energy Investments Pvt Ltd. It is an integrated refining and petrochemical company in India. HMEL operates the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery (GGSR) in Bathinda, Punjab, with a capacity of 11.3 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA).
