RINL To Get Bekundi Iron & Manganese Mines of Orissa Minerals Development Company

According to the details given by the OMDC officials, the Belkundi Iron and Mn ore mines, Barbil of OMDC public hearing held yesterday night has been successful and it is a milestone that the efforts made in the past many years have come to fruition today.

RINL owns 51% stake in EIL (Eastern Investment Limited) and also has ownership rights. EIL has a 51% stake in OMDC. Thus RINL has a maximum stake of 26% in OMDC.

The largest mine in OMDC mines is Belkundi Iron and Manganese ore mines, Barbil, Keonjhar District, Odisha, covering an area of about 1276 hectares, it has a production capacity of 1.8 million tonnes per annum. Therefore, in the coming days Visakha steel iron ore problems will be solved to large extent. We all know earlier The Orissa government refused to continue the lease in 2012, followed by a fine of around Rs 700 crore by the Supreme Court in 2012 due to numerous legal issues and production beyond capacity. It was paid by OMDC .

Later, many attempts were made to continue its lease but were unsuccessful. But again now as a result of the efforts of the RINL management, in particular RINL Director (Projects and Operation), Project & Works Division, officers in OMDC the Orissa state government has contributed in every way to make this public hearing a success. Here it is worth mentioning the efforts of UN Behara General Manager (D&E) I/c & Incharge OMDC and his team from RINL is commended for his contribution have been talking to the Orissa state government, local leaders and local organizations for a few months and have worked very hard to make this public hearing a success..

After this public hearing success, the state government will formally communicate the application minutes to the central government, MoS and then seek Forest & Environmental clearances. It may take another 9 months and will be another good asset to the RINL.

Steel Executives Association President Katam SS Chandrao Rao and KVD Prasad expressed happiness that after a long wait, OMDC Bekundi mines got success in public hearing, as it is an important step towards getting mines operation in near future. They expressed gratitude to Orissa government, representatives of Orissa, officers in OMDC and RINL management.
