The B. Sairam Files: Four Vigilance Enquiries, One Top-Notch Appointment – But Why Is Sairam Silent?

You can run from your past, but you can never outrun the ghosts it leaves behind, said some wise man!

Four vigilance enquiries. One subsequent appointment as Chairman of Coal India Limited. And no public explanation from B. Sairam about what happened to those four matters.

That, in essence, is the question confronting the Coal India CMD.

IndianPSU.com has confirmed information that four vigilance enquiries concerning Sairam were pending in 2024, when he was CMD of Northern Coalfields Limited.

As a matter of fact, though Sairam can now deny. He requested us not to carry this news report as it could “severely damage his career”, though he could deny that this ever happened. One of his staff member also called us with within minutes to say, “CMD Sahab is weeping, please don’t publish this news”.

But, now this man, after being elevated to the post of Chairman of Coal India Limited, is perhaps thinking that he is no less than a God. Within the power circles, sources say that he is heard saying, “I am the Minister’s man and no one dare touch me”.

If indeed he is bragging and boasting about his relations with the minister, it could be highly subjective.

Let’s come to the point – What is the current status of the four vigilance enquiries???

• Were they closed?

• Were they dropped?

• Did any result in disciplinary proceedings?

• Were they still pending when Sairam was considered for the Coal India CMD post?

• And were they disclosed to the authorities responsible for his selection and vigilance clearance?

IndianPSU.com gave Sairam multiple opportunities to answer these questions. He does not respond.

And that deafening silence creates a question that should not simply disappear because he now occupies the top position at Coal India,

THE FOUR FILES ARE THE STORY

When Sairam was CMD of Northern Coalfields Limited, his then Private Secretary, Subedar Ojha, was arrested by the CBI in an alleged bribery case. The agency reportedly recovered ₹3.85 crore in cash from Ojha’s residence.

But the arrest of a member of the CMD’s immediate office inevitably raises questions about vigilance oversight and administrative accountability within NCL.

These questions are separate from the four vigilance enquiries concerning Sairam. But taken together, they make transparency over the vigilance record of his NCL tenure even more important.

SAIRAM WAS ASKED. HE DID NOT ANSWER.

IndianPSU.com did not publish these questions without giving Sairam an opportunity to respond.

He was approached multiple times and was specifically asked to clarify the four vigilance enquiries, including their nature, dates of initiation, present status and whether they were disclosed during the Coal India CMD selection process.

Sources say that his self-claimed proclaimed proximity with the minister, makes him think that he is above questions.

But, we shall continue to raise questions.
