Underworld Don Chhota Rajan And Munna Bajrangi Figure On Postage Stamps As Department Starts Probe

The Kanpur postal department went into a tizzy and started an investigation into the printing of underworld don Chhota Rajan and gangster Munna Bajrangi’s pictures on postage stamps, which were printed in accordance with the Union government’s ‘My Stamp’ scheme.

Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, popularly known as Chhota Rajan, is an Indian criminal and mobster who served as the boss of a major crime syndicate based in Mumbai. He is currently serving a life sentence at Tihar Jail in New Delhi. Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi, a sharpshooter of Mukhtar Ansari gang was shot dead inside Baghpat Jail on July 9, 2018.

Under the ‘My Stamp’ scheme, one can get personalised sheets of postage stamps of India Post.

“The personalisation is achieved by printing a thumbnail image of the customer’s photograph and logos of institutions, or images of artwork, heritage buildings, famous tourist places, historical cities, wildlife, other animals and birds etc., on a selected template sheet having Postage Stamps,” read www.indiapost.gov.in.

One ‘My Stamp’ sheet contains 12 stamps with the face value of each stamp being Rs 5. The cost of one sheet is Rs 300. A fee of Rs 600 was paid to get the postage stamps of both the gangsters. This mischief has certainly not gone down well with the authorities. The postal department has begun a probe to find the person responsible for the incident.

As per the rules set by the Department of Posts that falls under the Ministry of Communications, a customer has to fill the ‘My Stamp’ order form indicating the choice of stamps from available stamp sheetlets. The filled-in form is to be handed over to the operator.
