8 Killed, Several Injured in Molten Steel Leak at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited
The fatal accident has reignited concerns over safety standards at the plant, with questions over accountability within the Steel Ministry and plant management

A major industrial accident at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited-operated Visakhapatnam Steel Plant claimed the lives of eight workers and left several others injured on Monday after a ladle carrying molten steel reportedly malfunctioned, leading to a devastating fire.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred while molten steel was being transported within the plant premises. The wires supporting the ladle are believed to have snapped, causing the vessel to tilt and spill molten metal onto the ground. The intense heat and cascading steel triggered a massive fire, engulfing the surrounding area and trapping workers nearby.
Emergency response teams rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured workers were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while authorities began assessing the extent of the damage and the circumstances that led to the accident.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief over the tragedy. In a post on X, he conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for those injured.
The Chief Minister has reportedly sought a detailed report on the incident and instructed the district administration and plant authorities to provide all necessary assistance to affected workers and their families.
The accident has once again highlighted the critical importance of industrial safety measures in heavy engineering and steel manufacturing facilities, particularly in operations involving high-temperature molten metal handling.
An investigation is expected to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether any lapses in safety protocols contributed to the tragedy.
