NTPC Unchahar, Plethora Of Programs Underway As Part Of Cleanliness Fortnight Initiative
Around 1500 people from various community sections in and around the project area had participated
Under the Cleanliness Fortnight organized by NTPC Unchahar, various initiatives are being carried out to integrate with the Swachh Bharat Mission, fostering a sense of public responsibility towards cleanliness. From the outset, this initiative aims to create an environment of public awareness through diverse programs, transforming the cleanliness fortnight into a widespread public movement. Participation is robust, with NTPC employees, their families, and a broad spectrum of community members including residents around the project area, schools, CISF personnel, local shopkeepers, contractual workers, and nearby villagers, all pledging to maintain cleanliness in their homes and workplaces.
The cleanliness fortnight commenced with a ceremony where NTPC Unchahar organized a cleanliness oath for morning shift workers and all employees. To extend awareness to rural residents, street plays were conducted in various locations such as the shopping complexes of the project premises, Unchahar railway station, Baherwa market, and Umran village. Special cleanliness drives were also undertaken at these locations, complemented by the distribution of dustbins to promote sustained cleanliness efforts.
A series of programs included training sessions and distribution of cleanliness kits to sanitation and contractual workers. Additionally, efforts to clean drains within the project area were made, and public awareness campaigns on eliminating single-use plastics were conducted.
Significantly, girls from nearby villages, involved in the Balika Shakti program under NTPC’s empowerment campaign, have taken an active role in the sanitation efforts. These girls have incorporated cleanliness into their daily lives and have received education on hygiene practices during menstruation. Inspired by their involvement, they performed street plays on cleanliness and participated in cleaning the workshop premises.
By the end of the first week of this massive cleanliness campaign, around 1500 people from various community sections in and around the project area had participated, benefiting thousands more. Project head Mandeep Singh Chhabda has been actively involved, striving to inspire and motivate the general public and specific groups alike.
Overall, NTPC Unchahar’s Cleanliness Fortnight has successfully mobilized a wide-ranging participation and created significant impact through its well-organized and inclusive initiatives, supporting the broader goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
