Captain Jagmohan (Retd.) is a trained ‘Naval Architect’ from Cochin University of Science & Technology. He obtained two post-graduation degrees from IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur, served the Indian Navy for 25 years, and held positions in Directorate of Naval Design
The Government of India has appointed Captain Jagmohan (Retd) as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), one of India’s premier defence public sector undertakings. The appointment was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on the recommendation of the Department of Defence Production, as per an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Captain Jagmohan is currently serving as the Director (Corporate Planning, Projects & Business Development) at Goa Shipyard Limited. Notably, his selection has been made “in relaxation of the eligibility criteria,” indicating a special consideration of his experience and domain expertise.
A trained Naval Architect from Cochin University of Science & Technology, Capt. Jagmohan holds dual M.Tech degrees in Naval Construction and Ocean Engineering from IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur, respectively. He served in the Indian Navy for 25 years, during which he held key positions in the Directorate of Naval Design (DND) and at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.
Before his current tenure at Goa Shipyard Ltd, he served as Chief General Manager (Design) at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata. There, he led the design of various complex warship projects including Advanced Stealth Frigates, P28 ASW Corvettes, Survey Vessels, ASW Shallow Water Crafts, and Fast Patrol Vessels for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.
As per the DoPT order, Captain Jagmohan will assume charge of CMD, MDL from the date he takes over and will continue in the role until his superannuation on September 30, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
His extensive background in naval design, shipbuilding, and defence project management is expected to bring significant value to Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited as it continues to play a pivotal role in India’s maritime defence capabilities.
