Tragedy struck on Thursday morning as an Air India flight en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI171, had 243 people onboard, including passengers and crew.

Air India’s Statement:

“Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest,” said the airline in its first official response.

Government Response:

Gujarat CM Bhupendrabhai Patel has reached Ahmedabad and is monitoring the situation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken with the Chief Minister, the State Home Minister, and Ahmedabad’s Police Commissioner, assuring full central assistance.

As of now, no official confirmation has been made on the number of casualties or survivors. Rescue operations are still underway.
