NTPC Mouda Launches Girl Empowerment Mission 2026

56 Rural Girls Begin Month-Long Journey of Learning and Confidence

Reinforcing its commitment towards inclusive social development and girl child education, NTPC Limited’s Mouda project on Saturday inaugurated Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2026, a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative designed to equip rural girls with academic exposure, life skills and self-confidence through a month-long residential workshop. The broader GEM programme is one of NTPC’s nationally acclaimed CSR interventions aligned with the Government’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao vision and has been scaled across dozens of NTPC stations in recent years.

Beginning on May 3 and continuing till May 30, 2026, the workshop at NTPC Mouda has brought together 56 girls shortlisted from 12 Zilla Parishad schools in villages surrounding the project, marking yet another step in NTPC’s sustained effort to transform the educational and social landscape for underprivileged rural children.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the traditional lamp lighting, followed by the NTPC Geet, an overview presentation on GEM, motivational movie screening, colourful cultural performances and emotional experience-sharing sessions by former participants and their parents—setting the tone for what officials described as a “transformative journey of aspiration and empowerment.”

Addressing the gathering, Joseph Bastian, Head of Project, NTPC Mouda, warmly welcomed all the selected participants and congratulated them on becoming part of one of NTPC’s most impactful social initiatives.

“This programme is not just a workshop but an opportunity to discover confidence, knowledge and new possibilities. NTPC Mouda remains fully committed to empowering girls through education and holistic development,” he said while wishing the participants a meaningful and enriching learning experience.

Structured Programme Beyond Classroom Learning

Officials said the GEM 2026 curriculum has been designed as a balanced blend of academic learning, personality development, practical skill building, co-curricular engagement and extracurricular activities.

During the month-long residential camp, the girls will undergo sessions in:

  • Basic academics
  • English communication
  • Mathematics and environmental awareness
  • Computer literacy
  • Health, hygiene and safety
  • Yoga and fitness
  • Dance, theatre and sports
  • Confidence-building and public speaking

Such modules are in line with the standard NTPC GEM framework that focuses not merely on textbook learning but on nurturing self-belief, communication ability and life preparedness among girls from disadvantaged rural communities.

NTPC Mouda’s Expanding GEM Footprint

What makes NTPC Mouda’s initiative particularly significant is the steady expansion of its outreach over the years.

  • 2022: 40 girls participated
  • 2023-25: gradual rise in enrolment
  • 2026: 60 girls registered, 56 successfully joined

This upward trajectory reflects the increasing trust among village families in NTPC’s intervention and the visible social outcomes generated by previous batches.

NTPC Mouda has already demonstrated long-term impact beyond the workshop itself. According to project officials, 15 meritorious students from earlier GEM batches have been admitted to NTPC Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, where NTPC is sponsoring their education up to Class XII—a move that ensures continuity of educational support instead of limiting the initiative to a one-time summer engagement.

This model of identifying promising talent and supporting further schooling has become a key success pillar of NTPC’s GEM mission nationally as well.

Community Participation Marks Strong Social Ownership

Saturday’s inauguration witnessed the participation of senior NTPC officials including GMs, HODs, Head of HR, representatives of unions and associations, welfare clubs, members of Samruddhi Mahila Samiti and Bal Bhavan, along with employees, coordinators, parents and local community stakeholders.

The presence of parents and former GEM participants added an emotional dimension to the launch, underlining how the programme has evolved into a trusted community platform for nurturing girls’ ambitions in project-affected villages.

CSR With Visible Human Impact

Unlike routine CSR cheque-distribution models, NTPC Mouda’s Girl Empowerment Mission is increasingly emerging as a deep-engagement social development programme with measurable educational outcomes. By combining residential exposure, mentorship, confidence-building and continued schooling support, the initiative seeks to create first-generation learners capable of breaking traditional barriers.

For dozens of girls from nearby villages, GEM is not merely a summer camp—it is often their first structured exposure to a disciplined learning ecosystem, digital literacy, public speaking and aspirational role models.

With GEM 2026 now underway, NTPC Mouda has once again signalled that its CSR vision extends beyond infrastructure and welfare spending to creating lasting human capital in rural India.
