IndianOil Assures Adequate Petrol and Diesel Supply Across India Amid Localised Shortages
In the month of May, as compared to last year, IOCL stated that Petrol sales has risen by 14% while Diesel sales has increased by approximately 18%

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) has reassured customers and the general public that there is no nationwide shortage of petrol and diesel, even as reports of limited availability at select retail outlets surfaced in parts of the country.
Addressing concerns triggered by media reports, the company clarified that the current situation is localised and temporary, caused by short-term demand-supply imbalances and shifting consumption patterns in specific regions.
Reasons Behind Localised Fuel Pressure
IndianOil attributed the surge in demand at certain outlets to multiple factors, including:
- Seasonal increase in diesel consumption during the ongoing harvesting period
- Temporary shift of customers from private fuel stations due to relatively higher retail prices
- Increased movement of institutional and commercial buyers toward PSU-operated outlets, as bulk fuel prices remain elevated in line with international trends
Strong Growth in Fuel Demand
Highlighting the demand trend, IndianOil reported robust growth in fuel sales between May 1 and May 22, 2026, compared to the same period last year:
- Petrol sales rose by 14%
- Diesel sales increased by approximately 18%
Despite this sharp and sustained rise in consumption, the company emphasized that it has continued to meet customer demand efficiently across the country.
Supplies Remain Stable Across Network
IndianOil further clarified that the reported shortages are confined to a very small number of outlets within its vast network of over 42,000 retail fuel stations nationwide. The majority of outlets continue to maintain normal stock levels and uninterrupted supply.
The company, along with other Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), confirmed that adequate fuel stocks are available across India, and steps are being taken to swiftly address any isolated disruptions.
Advisory to Consumers
Reiterating its commitment to seamless fuel availability, IndianOil urged customers to avoid panic buying, assuring that proactive measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted supply.
