Lok Sabha Housing Committee Reviews Progress of Noida International Airport at Jewar

Dr. Mahesh Sharma said the project will emerge as a major driver of economic growth, employment and global connectivity

The Lok Sabha Housing Committee conducted a local study and inspection visit to the Noida International Airport, Jewar on Thursday under the chairmanship of Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Member of Parliament and former Union Minister. The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress of the ambitious greenfield airport project and assessing its preparedness for future operations.

During the inspection, officials associated with the airport project presented a comprehensive overview of the airport’s ongoing development, current construction status, and future expansion plans. They briefed the committee on various aspects of the project, including facilities for Members of Parliament and VVIPs, security and protocol arrangements, VIP and VVIP lounges, passenger amenities, departure and arrival zones, special provisions for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, terminal infrastructure, firefighting and emergency response systems, as well as environmental sustainability initiatives.

The committee also held detailed discussions on coordination among key agencies involved in the airport’s development and operations. These included the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Bureau of Immigration (BOI), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), and the Department of Revenue. The deliberations also focused on future medical facilities and other operational improvements required before the airport becomes fully functional.

Among those present during the visit were Lok Sabha Housing Committee member and MP Aparajita Sarangi, MPs Kodikunnil Suresh, Akshay Yadav, Bhola Singh (Bulandshahr), Satish Kumar Gautam (Aligarh), MLA Laxmiraj Singh (Sikandrabad), MLA Meenakshi Singh (Khurja), MLA Tejpal Nagar (Dadri), Legislative Council members Narendra Bhati and Shrichand Sharma, Gautam Buddh Nagar Zila Panchayat Chairman Amit Chaudhary, BJP Gautam Buddh Nagar District President Abhishek Sharma, along with senior officials from various departments and agencies.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma appreciated the successful organization of the study tour and expressed gratitude to Christoph Schnellmann, Vice Chairman of Noida International Airport, Rakesh Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer of YEIDA, officials of AAI, NIAL, district administration, and all participating agencies for their effective coordination and cooperation.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, Dr. Sharma praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership in strengthening India’s world-class civil aviation infrastructure and enhancing national connectivity. He also thanked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for accelerating the development of the Noida International Airport project, promoting investments, and transforming the state’s infrastructure landscape.

Expressing confidence in the project’s future, Dr. Sharma said the coordinated efforts of the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments would establish Noida International Airport as a major hub for economic growth, employment generation, and global connectivity, while significantly enhancing India’s aviation capabilities.
