Residents Of Ukkunagaram And Neighbourhood Participate In Peaceful Protest Against Heinous Rape And Murder Of Medical Student In Kolkata
The program was organised by Ukkunagaram Kalibari Samiti of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL)
Hundreds of residents of Ukkunagaram and neighbourhood today gathered at the Kalibari temple complex of Ukkunagaram Township of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL) to participate in a peaceful sit in protest to protest the heinous rape and murder of the medical student at R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. The program was organised by the organised by Ukkunagaram Kalibari Samiti of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
The protest which had a significant presence of women, saw people from all walks of life, from young children to Senior Citizens joining in large numbers, with posters demanding Justice, strict punishment of the criminals and a safer society. Holding lit candles, the protesters staged a determined demonstration accompanied by Inspirational music and poems.
‘As a responsible social organization we couldn’t just sit quiet while this turmoil in our society pains us extremely. We are overwhelmed with the response which we got from the people of Ukkunagaram and nearby. The sit in protest was planned just couple of days back but people responded to our call spontaneously. This shows the anger this incident has generated in the society. We want a speedy and proper Justice and exemplary punishment to all who are involved’ said Abhayankar Banerjee, GM(Projects), RINL and senior office bearer, Ukkunagaram Kali Bari Samithi.
