CIL Chairman B. Sairam Declares 2026 as ‘Year of Reform and Transformation’
The Chairman reflected on Coal India’s journey from 79 million tonnes of production in 1975 to 781 million tonnes in 2025


Coal India Limited (CIL) Chairman B. Sairam has set an ambitious roadmap for 2026 as the “Year of Reform and Transformation”, calling for accelerated modernization and systemic change across the organisation.
Addressing a meeting of Functional Directors, CVO and senior executives at CIL’s Corporate Headquarters in Kolkata, today, the Chairman reflected on Coal India’s journey from 79 million tonnes of production in 1975 to 781 million tonnes in 2025, while underlining the need to continuously evolve to meet emerging challenges.
He stressed faster implementation of First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects, reduction in road-based coal transportation, stronger alignment with ESG objectives, and reiterated the vision of transforming Coal India into a technology-driven enterprise.
Director (HR) Dr. Vinay Ranjan outlined initiatives focused on AI-based training, reskilling and upskilling, along with implementation of new labour codes to build a future-ready workforce.
Director (Marketing) Mukesh Chowdhury emphasised maintaining quality standards and preparedness to address sectoral challenges, while Director (Finance) Shri Mukesh Agrawal highlighted cost optimisation and efficiency improvements as key drivers of profitability.
Director (Technical) Achyut Ghatak spoke on creating a future-ready Coal India with a focus on customer centricity, transparency, ease of doing business, productivity, and enhanced digital initiatives.
Sharing updates on diversification, Director (Business Development) Asheesh Kumar detailed progress in solar energy, critical minerals, thermal power and coal gasification to support sustainable growth.
CVO B.K. Tripathy highlighted proactive steps taken in 2025, including zero tolerance towards corruption, strengthened e-governance, digital transparency measures and systemic improvements.
