After Debesh’s retirement from a distinguished 34-year career at the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the couple embarked on a journey that reflected their shared passion for trekking, a pursuit that had long strengthened their bond.

Their recent expedition to the Everest Base Camp (EBC), along with the nearby iconic Kala Patthar, Gokyo Lake, and Gokyo Ri, was more than just a physical challenge—it was a celebration of their love for the mountains and for each other. Despite health challenges—Debesh with diabetes and a heart stent, and Anjana recovering from a slipped disc and knee surgery—they pushed forward, demonstrating incredible determination and resilience.

After reaching EBC on September 24 and celebrating at Kala Patthar on September 25, they were met with nature’s unpredictability. A torrential downpour lasted four days, culminating in a life-threatening landslide near Dole, forcing them to abandon their plans to reach Gokyo Lake. Their narrow escape from disaster reminded them of nature’s immense power and their own fragility.

The perilous return to Lukla tested their physical and emotional limits, but their love for each other and their shared resolve carried them through.
