Government Steps Back On Lateral Entry Appointments On Top Posts

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Personnel writes to UPSC Chairperson to convey message of cancellation of advertisement issued earlier

Union Minister of State for Personnel, Dr. Jitendra Singh on Tuesday, wrote a letter to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) chairperson to cancel the lateral entry advertisement as directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. UPSC had advertised for 45 posts last Saturday, out of which 10 were for joint secretary and 35 were for director/deputy secretary posts, to be filled through lateral entry mode on contract basis. The scheme aimed to appoint experts (including those from the private sector) in government departments.

The move had invited sharp criticism from the opposition as well as allies of the NDA government including the JDU and the LJP.
